For the last couple of weeks, the Philippine Atheists’ mailing lists has had nothing but conflict. One individual, in particular was ranting and raving and everyone else was mocking and making fun of him (myself included, admittedly). It wasn’t very pretty. The group as a whole was getting nowhere fast and it was quite demoralizing. I wouldn’t be surprised if many people have ceased their subscriptions. I, myself, had degraded my membership to a daily digest of all messages. It was all just a waste of time and a whole lot of junk mail.

I was mildly surprised today, though. Everything seemed to be in order. The catalyst for all the trouble seems to have come to his senses and mellowed down. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the one actually causing the trouble in the first place. He just happened to be the starting point and he’d stopped early on.

Things are starting to look up, but they’ll have to forgive me for being skeptical. The next few days should be interesting. Who knows, we might actually have a relevant, active atheist community in the Philippines soon.
