Jars of Clay
I was listening to random music today and when a song came up by Jars of Clay. It’s always seemed strange to me that one of my favorite albums is their Flood album. What’s strange about it is Jars of Clay is a contemporary Christian band and their music is all geared towards Christianity and the Bible. I really don’t care for the message but the lyrics and music have always appealed to me. To think that I first heard them long after I denounced any form of theism, whatsoever.
These guys are really hardcore Christians, from what little I know about them. Apparently, they went to college together and their course was Contemporary Christian Music. Why anyone would select such a path is beyond me.
I guess this is another point where atheism trumps theism. Because of my more open-minded views, I am able to look beyond the message and appreciate their music for what it is… damn good music. A Christian, however, when confronted with what they perceive as “Satanic music” will almost automatically discredit the song(s) as being bad, simply because of their preconceived bias towards what they claim to be “evil.”
I’ve listened to some of what would be considered “evil” music and it’s not really that bad, well at least it wasn’t when I was into the heavy stuff. Again, though, I liked it because of an individual song’s merits and not any underlying propaganda and today, I don’t like it because it’s just too noisy for my aging ears.
Oh, and the truly evil music is actually rap. That stuff is nasty, really bad stuff.
